History of Baldivis

Baldivis has one of the most dramatic transformation stories of any Perth suburb. Named after the Baldivis family who settled in the area in the 1880s, the region was for most of its history a rural district of horse studs, hobby farms, and bushland between Rockingham and the Serpentine River. The area was so rural that as recently as the 1990s, Baldivis was considered deep country south of Perth. Everything changed in the early 2000s when major residential estates began development, attracted by affordable land and the upcoming Perth-Mandurah railway. The Baldivis South estate and surrounding developments brought thousands of new homes, schools, shopping centres, and community facilities. The population exploded from a few hundred to over 40,000 in just two decades, making Baldivis one of the fastest-growing suburbs in Australia. Despite its rapid growth, Baldivis has maintained a family-friendly atmosphere with modern amenities and easy access to both the coast and the city.
